This raises a handyman invoice in the order the customer reads it. Hours at your rate, materials at your cost marked up as one line, the trip charge, any discount, sales tax on the materials where your state charges it, the invoice total, and the deposit already paid taken off to give the balance due, last and largest. It is the quote's lines with the actual figures, so a customer comparing the two sees the same shape. The quote's lines, with the numbers that changed
The invoice carries the same lines as the quote, hours, trip, materials, so the customer can see what moved: the extra hour the stuck valve took, the second trip to the store. An invoice built from a blank form loses that comparison and invites the query; one built from the quote answers it before it is asked.
Discount before tax, tax on the materials
A discount comes off the subtotal before the tax, so the tax is on what was actually charged; sales tax applies to the materials in most states and not to the labor, so the tool taxes the marked-up materials line and shows the base. Your state's rule decides whether labor is taxed; the tool fits the common case and says so.
The deposit comes off last, and the balance ends the page
An invoice that shows a total and mentions the deposit somewhere above gets paid in the wrong amount. The deposit is the last deduction and the balance due is the last line, because the last number on the page is the one the customer pays. Under it go your payment terms and how to pay, and nothing else.

Is this a free handyman invoice template?
Yes. Enter the hours, your rate, materials, markup, trip, discount, tax and the deposit paid, and it raises the invoice on the page with the balance due, no account and no card. Do I charge sales tax on labor?
In most US states, no: services are not taxed and the tax falls on the materials. Some states do tax repair labor, and some tax it only on certain kinds of work. The template taxes only the marked-up materials, which fits the common case, but your state's rule is the one that decides.
Can I use this for a job with no materials?
Yes. Enter zero materials and the materials and tax lines fall away, leaving hours at your rate and the trip charge. A handyman invoice for a labor-only visit is still hours, rate and trip, and the customer should see all three.
